IVECO BUS delivers 53 CROSSWAY Hybrid buses to Interbus Group, accelerating the transition of interurban transport in Spain
Vénissieux, 8 Avril 2026
Sustainable mobility in Spain is making tangible progress with IVECO BUS, which has officially delivered 53 CROSSWAY Hybrid vehicles to Interbus, one of the country’s leading operators. Beyond its scale, this strategic delivery reflects a long-term partnership committed to more environmentally friendly and comfortable interurban mobility for passengers.
These new vehicles form part of the renewal of public transport infrastructure. Most will be integrated into the Madrid Regional Transport Consortium (CRTM), helping to strengthen connections in one of Europe’s most dynamic regions for mobility. The remainder of the fleet will be deployed in the south of the country to operate strategic interurban routes in Andalusia, improving both operational efficiency and environmental footprint of regional interurban transport.
Giorgio ZINO, Head of IVECO BUS Commercial Operations in Europe, said:
“The renewed confidence shown by Interbus demonstrates the strength of our partnership and our ability to provide concrete support to operators throughout their transition. In our sector, sustainability is truly meaningful when it delivers tangible benefits for operators while helping to improve air quality for citizens. This delivery confirms that IVECO BUS hybrid technology now represents a practical and effective solution to connect regions and ensure high-performance daily mobility”.
CROSSWAY Hybrid: efficiency without compromise
The selected model, the CROSSWAY Hybrid, has become a market benchmark thanks to its ability to combine fuel savings with lower consumption compared to the non-hybrid version – a significant advantage at a time when operators are facing rising energy costs. In addition, when combined with renewable fuels, this hybrid solution helps reduce CO₂ emissions. Featuring simple yet highly efficient hybrid technology, the model supports a pragmatic energy transition for operators without compromising the range or power required for interurban operations.
The CROSSWAY Hybrid architecture stands out for its integration of a 48V mild-hybrid system that recovers energy during braking and assists the engine during start-up and acceleration. This optimises energy management without requiring external charging infrastructure. All 53 units are also equipped with the latest active safety features and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), designed to ensure maximum safety in dense urban environments such as Madrid and on long-distance motorway routes in Andalusia. In addition, its modular interior design ensures full accessibility for passengers with reduced mobility, with automatic ramps and ergonomic spaces that raise interurban travel comfort to a higher level.
A shared commitment
With this acquisition, Interbus Group reaffirms its leadership in fleet renewal by selecting a technology that guarantees service continuity while meeting the highest standards of safety and accessibility. For its part, IVECO BUS strengthens its position on the Spanish market as a preferred partner for public authorities and private operators developing relevant and efficient mobility solutions aligned with the challenges of the energy and environmental transition.
