IVECO BUS turns production waste into new resources, boosting industrial efficiency in Argentina

In Argentina, IVECO BUS is implementing a circular economy initiative at its Córdoba plant, turning production waste into new resources for its vehicles. The initiative is already being applied to the natural gas-powered 170G21, with more than 18 tonnes of aluminium offcuts recycled and over 4,400 new parts to be manufactured to date.

In Argentina, IVECO BUS is putting circular economy principles into practice at its Córdoba plant: aluminium offcuts generated during production are recovered and reintroduced into the value chain to manufacture pedal housings for the natural gas-powered 170G21.

From waste to resource: a three-step circular process

· Identifying and sorting aluminium at the production site

The process begins at the Córdoba production site, where aluminium offcuts are generated during production. This material is identified as a resource that can be returned to the production cycle. Rather than being treated simply as scrap, it is recovered, reducing the need for virgin raw materials.

·  Reintegrating aluminium into the value chain

IVECO BUS works directly with a supplier specialising in aluminium casting, which uses the recovered aluminium waste as a raw material. Since the project was launched, more than 18 tonnes of aluminium offcuts have already been delivered to the supplier.

· Producing new parts from 100% recycled material

The process results in a new component made from 100% recycled material. To date, more than

4,400 pedal housings produced through this circular economy loop have been received. Material initially generated as waste at the site returns to the production cycle as a component for a new vehicle. This loop helps improve waste management, secure competitively priced raw materials and reduce parts costs.

The natural gas-powered 170G21 at the heart of a broader circular economy approach

The first model produced in Argentina to feature natural gas technology, the 170G21 is fitted with these pedal housings. A cornerstone of the brand’s multi-energy strategy in the country, it now embodies a more comprehensive approach: by incorporating components made from recycled materials, it also brings circular economy principles at the heart of its manufacturing process.

The project also extends beyond the bus sector: these housings are fitted to the brand’s trucks as well, reinforcing the cross-functional, industrial-scale scope of this circular economy initiative.

An industrial initiative that creates value

Through this initiative, IVECO BUS demonstrates that structured waste management can serve as a genuine driver of industrial and economic performance. By combining circular economy principles, innovation and collaboration with its partners, the brand is optimising production processes, making more efficient use of resources and contributing to energy transition objectives.
