World Public Transport Day: IVECO BUS committed to sustainable and attractive public mobility, serving people
Vénissieux, April 16, 2026 Celebrated on April 17, 2026, World Public Transport Day, initiated by UITP, shines a spotlight on the essential role of public transport, now more than ever at the heart of sustainable mobility challenges. In a context of climate urgency and energy transition, public transport stands out as a key lever to reduce CO₂ emissions, improve urban quality of life and strengthen social cohesion by connecting people and bringing territories closer together. On this first edition, IVECO BUS, a major player in public transport in Europe and worldwide, reaffirms its long‑term commitment alongside transport networks. For the manufacturer, designing mobility solutions means first and foremost providing concrete responses to the daily needs of passengers, drivers, operators and public transport authorities. Building on nearly 30 years of expertise, the manufacturer has established itself as one of the leaders in alternative energy solutions across urban, interurban and coach segments, thanks to a technologically neutral approach integrating battery electric, hydrogen, biomethane and hybrid solutions. In 2025, 24% of clean vehicles sold in Europe carried the IVECO or HEULIEZ brands, driven by the performance of its battery‑electric and biomethane solutions. Tailored to the realities of each territory, this comprehensive offering enables IVECO BUS to sustainably support regions in developing efficient and attractive networks that enhance quality of life. “Enhancing the attractiveness of public transport means above all committing to a continuous approach based on understanding people’s expectations. On the first World Public Transport Day, IVECO BUS reaffirms its commitment alongside cities, territories and operators to deliver sustainable, high‑performance solutions tailored to local realities, making public transport an increasingly desirable alternative,”said Claudio Passerini, President, Bus Business Unit, Iveco Group. Solutions designed for people, supporting more attractive networks Because the attractiveness of public transport also relies on passenger experience, IVECO BUS works closely with operators to design highly customised vehicles tailored to local realities and user expectations, with an average of nearly 80 adaptations per vehicle. Comfort, accessibility, design, passenger information and multimodality are at the heart of the proposed layouts: braille stop buttons, configurations facilitating the transport of bicycles, scooters or strollers, customised interior atmospheres, and infotainment solutions. BRT, a key lever to encourage modal shift A concrete illustration of this vision, BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) represents a credible and high‑performance alternative to private cars. A pioneer of the concept for more than 20 years—now developed under the CREALIS and GX ELEC LINIUM ranges—IVECO BUS delivers BRT solutions combining distinctive design, a high level of customisation and controlled costs. These solutions help enhance network image, improve the passenger experience and sustainably encourage modal shift.
