IVECO BUS has delivered 47 fully electric 10.7-metre E-WAY midibuses to CTM S.p.A., the public transport operator of Cagliari. They are the first E-WAY midibuses equipped with FPT batteries to be delivered to a customer in Europe. This energy storage technology is now available across the entire E-WAY range. The vehicles were acquired by CTM S.p.A. as part of a project funded through Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), managed by the Municipality of Cagliari, through the CONSIP framework agreement.

The handover ceremony took place in Cagliari in the presence of Mayor Massimo Zadda; Deputy Mayor for Transport of Quartu Sant’Elena, Romina Mura; CTM Cagliari President Fabrizio Rodin; CTM Cagliari General Manager Bruno Useli; and Tiziano Dotti, Italy Public Sales Manager at IVECO BUS.

With its compact dimensions — 10.7 metres long and just 2.33 metres wide — the E-WAY midibus stands out for its manoeuvrability, particularly on routes with restricted access and in city-centre narrow streets. It offers an agile, high-performance 100% electric solution tailored to demanding operating conditions, while preserving passenger capacity and operational efficiency.

The 47 electric midibuses delivered to CTM Cagliari offer a high level of passenger comfort and meet the highest safety standards. They are equipped with five FPT battery packs, providing a total capacity of around 350 kWh, and an electric motor with a maximum power output of 310 kW. Their interior layout includes 20 seats and capacity for 59 standing passengers, as well as a dedicated area for wheelchair passengers with a manual access ramp. The driver’s area features a full protection system, helping to improve drivers’ working conditions.

The vehicles are equipped with advanced onboard electronic systems for real-time vehicle localisation and passenger information, both inside and outside the vehicle, including service updates and next-stop announcements. An interior video surveillance system helps enhance safety, while a heat pump ensures thermal comfort.

Giorgio ZINO, Head of IVECO BUS Commercial Operations in Europe, said: “This delivery to CTM Cagliari marks an important milestone for IVECO BUS, both in Italy and in Europe. With the first E-WAY midibuses equipped with FPT batteries delivered to a European customer, we confirm our ability to offer compact, high-performance zero-emission solutions tailored to the real-world needs of public transport operators. We are proud to support CTM and the Municipality of Cagliari in their transition towards more sustainable, more efficient urban mobility focused on quality of service for citizens.”

With this delivery, IVECO BUS reaffirms its position as a trusted partner for public transport authorities and operators in the energy transition of European urban networks. This European premiere confirms its ability to provide effective zero-emission solutions tailored to the needs of urban networks.
